Independent game studio — Belgium

One developer, one valley, one ruined castle

Hauteroche Studio is a one-person independent game studio based in Dourbes, in the Viroin valley of the Belgian Ardennes.

Comic-style illustration of Rudy Priesterbosch at his desk, headset on, working on Dead Hand: card art on two monitors, printed cards and a coffee mug beside the keyboard.

Behind the studio

Hauteroche Studio is Rudy Priesterbosch. Game design, programming, art direction, writing, community: everything goes through the same desk, in Dourbes.

Working solo means every decision is made close to the game, and close to the players. Feedback from the demo and the playtests goes straight into the next build.

Why “Hauteroche”

The studio takes its name from the ruins of the medieval castle of Haute-Roche, which overlook the village of Dourbes and the Viroin valley.

Stones that have outlasted everything around them: a fitting landmark for a studio whose first game is about surviving the end of the world.

How we work

  • Solo, for real

One person, one vision: every game keeps a strong, consistent identity, from the first idea to the last line of code.

  • Built with the players

Playtests, a free demo, devlogs and an open Discord: the game is shaped in public, with the people who play it.

  • Rooted in the valley

Made in the Belgian Ardennes, far from the big studios, with the time it takes to do things properly.
